Don's Tools and Stools weekend workshop was awesom Don's Tools and Stools weekend workshop was awesome! We spent two days building bow saws and some rustic furniture. Incredible use of recycled material and traditional technique was on display this weekend, and folk left with new knowledge of hand tools, woodworking, and the experience of getting to hang out with Don Weber once again. Wanna do that too? Don has a blacksmithing workshop this coming weekend to build some camping gear! Sign up on our website at bereamakerspace.org/calendar
We have event dates up for our parade build! Want We have event dates up for our parade build! Want to participate in a gaggle of loud-ass snapping turtles walking down the street on July 5th? Join our krew! We're building: 12 backpack turtles Jingling Johnnys Noise Makers and costumes to accompany! Any amount of help is appreciated! The starting time each day is the only hard schedule. We're working til we don't want to. Paper Mache, Costume Making, and more will be done this month. Jess has been building out the general hard bits of these costumes, and we need your help to finish these (and pilot??). We'll figure out any sort of choreography at this time as well. Are you REALLY sure you want to wear a backpack puppet? Then let us know directly at info@bereamakerspace.org - we need at least 10!
We have a few spots left in Don Weber's Tools and We have a few spots left in Don Weber's Tools and Stools workshop this weekend! We went over to his shop this week to check out what he's been working on. We're excited for the opportunity to continue hosting his traditional craft opportunities at the Berea Makerspace. Signups are on our website, bereamakerspace.org/calendar https://bereamakerspace.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4091&club_id=440327&item_id=2926828 Spend the weekend learning traditional tool making and applying it on a simple project. This is appropriate for all skill levels. On day one, you'll be building a bow saw. Don will be demoing three styles, from a simpler version for general carpentry, to a scroll saw like version for intricate forms (you are heavily encouraged to build the carpentry one however). This is the focus of our weekend. On day two, you'll use that tool to cut out your oak seat, with legs being formed with a draw knife and tenon cutter. Hopefully, by the end of that day, your project will be complete (or you'll have the tools and insight to finish it yourself!)
Thanks to everyone who showed up for our third Ham Thanks to everyone who showed up for our third Hammer-In this weekend! We're thankful to continue this event despite our change in traditional craft funding. Extremely grateful for those who came to present as well, and for Jeff Farmer's continued leadership. Like what you saw? Don Weber has his Campfire Forging workshop in June, and Bob will continue with his beginner and continuing blacksmithing workshops in July. Jeff Farmer is also conducting Learnshop sessions in July through Berea Tourism. All this can be found on our event calendar, bereamakerspace.org/calendar =)
